Sconces
-
Delectable crystalline balls reference natural stalactite-like forms with childhood memories of the sugar pop candies. Warm light seeps through cracks and crevices, illuminating the wonderful imperfections of the crystals themselves and highlight the natural beauty of quartz. Translated into a wall sconce with a naturally occurring volcanic glass, obsidian –used since ancient times in mirrors and knives – is paired with aged brass, to create a timeless pastiche of materiality. Boots here explores the myriad mineral kingdom and re-interprets the ancient uses of these materials into a contemporary context. Minerals used in the work are sourced from Brazil and Mexico.
