"The Powerlines bench was inspired by a small Tony Smith maquette called Yellowbird made in 1971. I wanted to keep the minimal angularity of his work, but make it more my own with dynamic and irregular geometry. The weld lines are left visible, partly as a record of the welding process and also as visual markers that define the triangles. As well as adding definition, the heat of the weld makes slightly bends and pools in the faces, giving it a softer organic quality that contrasts with the hard geometric nature of the form." - Julian Mayor
