The idea of this chair was to explore the boundaries between an original and an identical copy of an object. Thechair was based on a Queen Anne chair from the collection of the Metropolitan museum in New York that has been sampled, digitised and recreated. It was modelled on a computer from detailed plans, and then cut from sheets of plywood using a numerical router.
"Although the piece keeps an appreciation of the form and formality of the original, it has been transformed into something that is more about the idea of possibility. It requires some kind of relationship with the viewer to make it work, and seems to create a question mark rather than a full stop".
